I bought some dorayaki at “Akasaka Ogino WAKAN,” located on the B2 floor of Toranomon Hills Station Tower. They only offer takeout, and I chose their signature “Azuki Mascarpone” flavor. Since this is the dessert division of a Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant, I’d been curious about this shop for a while.

A Visit to the Trending “Akasaka Ogi-no WAKAN” at Toranomon Hills
“Akasaka Oginoh WAKAN” is a dorayaki specialty brand operated by the Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant “Akasaka Oginoh,” located in a prime spot directly connected to Toranomon Hills Station on the Hibiya Line.Since opening on November 24, 2023, it has become a popular spot attracting many visitors seeking their meticulously crafted dorayaki. Although it’s a takeout-only shop, you can really feel the attention to detail even in the packaging and presentation.

The excitement of watching freshly baked dorayaki right before your eyes
At the storefront, you can watch up close as the dorayaki batter is cooked one after another on a large griddle. This “live experience” is the main appeal of Wagami’s dorayaki. The sight of rows of freshly baked dorayaki lined up is truly spectacular—it made me want to eat as many as possible while they were still hot.
Once you see them being cooked right in front of you, you’ll just want to eat them fresh off the grill!
It’s rare to find dorayaki with that live, in-the-moment feel. It’s totally worth the wait in line.

Tasting the Fresh Azuki-Mascarpone Dorayaki
This time, I tried the fresh azuki and mascarpone dorayaki (560 yen each). The crust was fluffy, and it was generously filled with mascarpone cream and azuki beans. With its refined sweetness, it was a dessert that perfectly balanced Japanese and Western flavors. The moment I took a bite, the sweet, syrupy aroma wafted gently up my nose—a memorable experience that really conveyed the high quality of the ingredients.

Moist and fluffy, with a refined texture reminiscent of Wasanbon sugar
Although the dough is incredibly fluffy, it isn’t airy or hollow—instead, it’s characterized by a moist, soft texture. With an elegant sweetness and texture reminiscent of Wasanbon sugar, it was the most delicious dorayaki I’ve ever tasted. It’s a meticulously crafted treat well worth the trip to get.

An extensive selection of gelato and other Japanese sweets
In addition to dorayaki, they offer gelato made with traditional Japanese ingredients such as Uji matcha, Wasanbon sugar, roasted green tea, and white sesame. The shop also features a variety of other sweets that highlight these ingredients, such as condensed milk kudzu tofu and brown sugar warabi mochi, providing plenty of options beyond dorayaki. The lineup is so diverse that you’ll want to try something new every time you visit.

Exquisite packaging designed specifically for takeout
Since this is a takeout-only shop, the attention to detail in the packaging is one of its highlights. The original furoshiki—featuring a beautiful navy and gold Japanese pattern—is sized to wrap either a 5-piece or 10-piece box of fresh dorayaki; at the time of photography, it cost around 1,000 yen (prices may vary depending on the season). It’s perfect for gifts, and decorative gift boxes are available for both the 5-piece and 10-piece sets.
The furoshiki wrapping—with its elegant traditional patterns—looks perfect for gifts!
Since they’re a takeout-only shop, they really don’t skimp on the packaging.
