I visited “Tsukemen Hajime Harajuku, ” a popular tsukemen specialty shop that’s been around for 15 years, located right next to Meiji-jingumae Station. One great perk is that you can get a free large portion of noodles all day long. I tried their signature dish, the Special Tsukemen, so here’s my review of what makes it so great.
A Renowned Restaurant Near Meiji-Jingumae Station, Thriving for 15 Years
Opened on April 12, 2011, the Hajime Harajuku branch continues to be beloved to this day. It’s easily accessible, located just a 5-minute walk from JR Harajuku Station and a 3-minute walk from Meiji-jingumae Subway Station. Look for the red sign at the building’s entrance and head down the stairs to the B1 level.

A restaurant that’s been around for 15 years—it really feels like it’s loved by the locals!
The fact that it’s been around this long right next to the station is proof of its quality.
The menu offers the delightful perk of free extra-large portions on all noodle dishes all day long.
The menu features a wide variety of options, ranging from the Special Tsukemen to Special Spicy Tsukemen, Special Shio Tsukemen, Special Rich Seafood Ramen, and even Mazesoba. One of the restaurant’s biggest draws is its generous service: free large portions on all noodle dishes all day long, and a free half-serving of rice on weekdays from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Suggestions for the Best Way to Enjoy Your Meal
Inside the restaurant, there’s also a board explaining “How to Enjoy Tsukemen.” First, pick up a few strands of noodles with your chopsticks, slurp them down to enjoy the smooth texture as they slide down your throat, and then dip them in the dipping sauce to continue eating them smoothly.Once you’ve eaten about a third of the portion, the sign suggests adding a splash of daidai vinegar or a pinch of ichimi pepper for extra flavor—a thoughtful touch that ensures you’ll enjoy every last bite.

Time to Eat! Special Tsukemen
I ordered the Special Tsukemen. The chewy, medium-thick noodles don’t cling to the dipping sauce more than necessary, maintaining a very well-balanced dish. The firm, thick noodles paired perfectly with the rich broth, making for a satisfying bowl. The balance between the umami of the seafood and the broth’s moderate richness was excellent, allowing you to enjoy it without getting bored until the very end.The chashu was tender and thoroughly infused with flavor, leaving me feeling very satisfied.

There’s also a spicy tsukemen option on the menu, but I’m told the heat is kept mild enough that even those who aren’t big on spicy food can enjoy it—so it’s recommended for when you’re craving a little kick. The broth is delicious, and the noodles are delicious. It was a bowl that made me want to come back for more.
The combination of chewy, thick noodles and rich broth—just thinking about it makes me hungry!
Being able to change up the flavor with daidai vinegar is another reason you won’t get bored until the very last bite.
Summary
Hajime’s Harajuku branch is a top-notch tsukemen shop right by Meiji Jingumae Station, featuring a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy to dine alone, along with great perks like free extra-large portions of noodles. With consistent deliciousness backed by a 15-year history, you’ll definitely want to come back for more.If you’re looking for tsukemen in the Harajuku or Meiji-jingumae area, be sure to check it out.
