Mikasa Deco & Cafe Jingumae | Trying the Ricotta Cheese Pancakes That Let the Natural Flavors of the Ingredients Shine at This Acclaimed 10-Year-Old Cafe

Read in Japanese

I visited “MICASADECO & CAFE,” a highly acclaimed café in the Harajuku/Jingumae area that’s celebrating its 10th anniversary. Their signature dish is ricotta cheese pancakes that truly bring out the natural flavors of the ingredients, and the café is very popular with international visitors as well. Here’s my report from my visit.

Mikasa Deco & Café is a café-restaurant where you can enjoy not only pancakes but also meal options like cheese-packed risotto and roast beef sandwiches. It reopened in March 2020 following a relocation and renovation. One of its appeals is that on weekdays, they offer a monthly rotating lunch menu, and on weekends, a brunch menu where you can enjoy egg dishes and pancakes paired with wine.

The fact that they have a great selection of meal options in addition to pancakes is a real plus.

Access & Atmosphere

Located in the Harajuku area, just a short walk from Meiji-jingumae Station, Mikasa Deco & Café features a cozy interior with a stylish, sky-blue-themed atmosphere. When I visited for Saturday lunch, nearly half the customers were foreigners, and I could really feel just how popular it is with international visitors. I waited a little over 30 minutes that day.

I tried the signature dish, “Ricotta Cheese Pancakes”

I ordered the restaurant’s signature dish, the Ricotta Cheese Pancakes. The three-layer stack of fluffy pancakes is visually impressive, but when you actually take a bite, you’ll find it’s even more satisfying than it looks. The batter has a subtly sweet, plain flavor, and the addition of ricotta cheese adds a smooth, savory note—the balance is exquisite, never too sweet. It’s a simple, delicious dish that truly highlights the natural flavors of the ingredients, and the more you eat, the more you appreciate its perfection.

Seeing “HELLO” written on the plate just makes me happy ♡

With this much food spread across three tiers, sharing it is definitely a good idea.

Refreshing “Chunky Pineapple Tea Soda”

The drink I ordered was the “Chunky Pineapple Tea Soda” (750 yen, tax included). It’s packed with homemade pineapple compote, and the combination of aromatic black tea and carbonation is refreshing. With the texture of the chunky fruit pieces and a hint of rosemary as an accent, it had a crisp, clean flavor.

MICASADECO & CAFE Jingumae is a spot that’s understandably popular with both locals and international visitors, thanks not only to the exceptional quality of its pancakes but also to its menu that prioritizes the natural flavors of its ingredients and its stylish atmosphere. Since lines are inevitable on weekends, it’s best to visit with plenty of time to spare. Be sure to stop by when exploring cafes in the Harajuku and Jingumae areas.

It seems to get crowded on weekends, so it’s probably best to go with plenty of time to spare.
