If you’re looking for lunch in Harajuku, I’ve found a spot that’s a real bargain! It’s “Chai-Kuro Harajuku Hall,” located on the second floor of the NODERA BLDG. Since you have to take the stairs to get there, it’s an easy-to-miss hidden gem—but you won’t want to miss out on this great deal!
A set meal with 15 different side dishes for just 1,000 yen (tax included)!
Wow~! You can eat this for just 1,000 yen?? That’s amazing! The side dishes are piled high~✨
That’s right. For Harajuku, this is one of the cheapest options around. It even comes with self-serve miso soup and coffee.

Chai-Kuro Harajuku Hall’s signature dish is the “15-Item Side Dish Set Meal.” Sashimi, fried chicken, hamburger steak, fried chikuwa with seaweed, rolled omelet, tofu, pickles, simmered vegetables, namul… a variety of ingredients are arranged in small bowls. It’s nutritionally balanced, and being able to enjoy so many different flavors is the best!
You get to eat this much, and it even comes with self-serve miso soup and coffee? It’s incredibly satisfying!
The seasoning is on the bold side, so it really goes well with rice. Keep in mind that the menu is geared toward young men.
I also highly recommend the Cheese Sauce Hamburger Steak with Demi-Glace Rice!
I tried a different dish that day: the Cheese Sauce Hamburger Steak with Demi-Glace Rice. The hamburger steak, topped with cheese and demi-glace sauce, is enveloped in a rich, golden sauce. This is also available at a reasonable price.

Hamburger steak! That demi-glace sauce looks so cute~! I’d love to try this one too~!
The Cheese Sauce Hamburger Steak has a rich, bold flavor, too. It’s the kind of dish that really goes well with rice. Perfect for students who like to drink beer.
Self-Service Coffee & Miso Soup Boost Satisfaction
One of the great things about Chai-Kuro Harajuku Hall is that the miso soup and iced coffee are self-serve. The miso soup is warm, the coffee is cold, and you can have as much as you like to go with your meal. This alone really boosts your satisfaction.

Take the stairs to the second floor. A hidden gem for lunch in Harajuku
Chai-Kuro Harajuku Hall is a 6- to 7-minute walk from Meiji-jingumae Station or Harajuku Station. Take the stairs from the entrance of the NODERA BLDG to the second floor. That’s why it’s a hidden gem that’s easy for passersby to overlook—it’s a place known only to those in the know.

Since it’s on the second floor up the stairs, it really feels like a hidden gem! I bet a lot of people miss it!
That’s true. If you’re looking for a great lunch deal in Harajuku, this is the place to find it. It’s a hidden gem on weekday afternoons, so you can take your time eating.
The menu features rich, hearty flavors—perfect for young guys.

At Chai-Kuro Harajuku Hall, the flavors are generally on the bold side. There are plenty of salty dishes designed to really make you dig into your rice. That’s why it’s my top recommendation for male students looking for a great value lunch in Harajuku. Women and those who prefer lighter flavors should be aware of how bold the seasoning is.
I just found one of the cheapest lunches in Harajuku at Chai-Kuro Harajuku Hall! The 15-item set meal is such a steal!
That’s right. If you want to fill your stomach on a budget in Harajuku, this is the place to go. I recommend going on a weekday morning. Go check it out right away. …Not that I’m worried about it being crowded or anything.
