Just a short walk from Harajuku Station, “Grim Harajuku” is tucked away on the second basement level. It’s the place I go to when I want to enjoy a hearty, great-value steak by myself. My go-to combination is the wild-cut Angus steak with the red wine-based “Grim Sauce.” I love that I can choose the portion size depending on how I’m feeling that day.

“Grim Harajuku,” a hidden gem grill near Harajuku Station
“Grim Harajuku” is conveniently located just 110 meters from JR Harajuku Station. It’s a hidden gem of a grill restaurant on the second basement level of Chanzel Harajuku Building No. 2—the kind of place you’d miss if you didn’t know it was there. While many restaurants in Harajuku close at 8:00 PM, this one stays open late, with last orders at 10:30 PM and closing at 11:00 PM, which is a real plus.

A retro Showa-era space awaits at the bottom of the stairs leading to the second basement level
The entrance is at the bottom of a narrow staircase, so first-time visitors might get a little lost. When you open the door, you’re greeted by a space that exudes a sense of nostalgia; combined with the affordable prices, it feels a bit like stepping back in time. American rock plays in the background, which pairs well with the grilled dishes and helps set the mood.
It feels like a hidden gem underground—so exciting!
That Showa-era retro vibe and American rock—they actually go surprisingly well together.

The interior is cozy and inviting, even for solo diners—it’s a bit cramped but very relaxing
The interior is fairly compact, with tables packed closely together, but that gives it an unpretentious vibe that makes it easy to just pop in even if you’re alone. I feel like this is a versatile spot—perfect for a relaxed lunch with two or more people, or for a quick meal on your own before heading home.

Tasting the Wild-Cut Angus Steak
This time, I ordered the steak, which had already been cut into bite-sized pieces. It was cooked through, giving me a real sense of satisfaction from eating a hearty piece of meat.It was served quickly, and the sight of it being brought to the table sizzling on a hot iron plate really whets your appetite. I highly recommend the red wine-based “Grim” sauce—it’s a classic flavor that really brings out the meat’s umami.

A wide variety of meat dishes and the freedom to choose your portion size
The meat menu isn’t limited to steak—it also features a wide variety of options, including hamburger steaks and chicken thigh. The Wild Cut Angus Steak is available in 150g, 200g, and 300g portions, so you can adjust your order based on your mood or how hungry you are that day. During lunch, you can get unlimited refills on rice, making it perfect for days when you want to eat your fill.*Please note that the menu photos are from a while ago, so prices may differ from current prices.

Great value on drinks and the appeal of being open late
Another highlight you won’t want to miss is the incredibly affordable glass wine. The drink menu offers a full range of options, including draft beer, highballs, and Smirnoff Ice, making it a great spot not just for a meal but also for a quick drink. Payment is accepted via QR code services like PayPay or cash only, so it’s best to confirm this in advance.
The fact that glass wine is so cheap is a real plus!
It’s a real blessing to find a place in Harajuku with these prices that’s open this late.
