Earl Grey cheesecake (¥850) and beer. The texture was far creamier and smoother than I imagined—it was absolutely amazing…!

“Esquisse Coffee,” a hidden-gem café where art and nature blend together, has opened in the Omotesando and Gaienmae area. I paid a visit to this café, which is also gaining attention as a hotspot for fans of their favorite idols.

My Fateful Encounter with the Earl Grey Cheesecake

What drew me to this café was the Earl Grey cheesecake, which has been trending on social media. I went in with high expectations, but the melt-in-your-mouth, silky-smooth texture far exceeded them. The moment I took my first bite, I was completely captivated by its magnificence.

The subtle aroma of Earl Grey was elegant, perfectly balanced with the refreshing tang of the cheese. It wasn’t too sweet—a sophisticated flavor. It paired exceptionally well with coffee (served in a glass), and I truly realized just how blissful an evening café visit could be. It has definitely become one of my favorite cafés.

An Extraordinary Space Where Art and Nature Harmonize

Esquisse Coffee’s greatest charm is, without a doubt, its space where art and nature blend seamlessly. It’s a rare gem where you can enjoy not just the coffee, but the space itself.

As soon as you step inside, your eyes are drawn to a variety of artworks. Colorful abstract paintings and geometric patterns adorn the white concrete walls, making it the perfect spot for Instagram-worthy photos.

It’s also striking how houseplants and greenery are placed throughout the space. A variety of plants—including large Monstera, Ficus, and Cymbidium orchids—are potted in white planters, bringing nature into the café. Combined with the wooden tables, this creates a calm and cozy atmosphere that lets you forget the hustle and bustle of the city.

With high ceilings and a design that lets natural light stream in, the space is bright during the day and takes on a warm, inviting atmosphere at night thanks to the lighting. Time flows slowly here, creating a high-quality experience that makes you want to linger.

A Well-Rounded Nighttime Café

This café isn’t just for daytime visits— it also has a distinct identity as a sophisticated nighttime spot for adults. A special night menu is available starting at 6:00 PM.

It offers a wide selection of alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, and cocktails, along with a food menu featuring items like roast beef and pasta—a variety that goes beyond what you’d typically expect from a café. Several desserts are also available to satisfy those with a sweet tooth.

Whether you’re stopping by between fan activities, meeting up with friends, or looking for a date spot, Esquisse Coffee’s ever-changing atmosphere—adapting to the time of day—is exactly why you’ll want to come back again and again.

Perfect for fan activities, work, and personal time

Esquisse Coffee’s convenience also sets it apart from other cafes.

In addition to basic amenities like power outlets and free Wi-Fi, the space is designed with security in mind, making it ideal for remote work or extended sessions. It also serves as the perfect spot to recharge after a tiring day of fan activities.

Another highlight is the DJ booth. Events are held regularly here, offering a fresh way to enjoy café culture.

Although seating is limited to 11 tables, this allows you to avoid crowds and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere. For larger groups, private rentals (accommodating 20–50 people) are available, making it suitable for events and private parties.

Smoking is prohibited throughout the premises; pets and strollers are welcome.

The venue’s commitment to welcoming a diverse range of guests—from families to pet owners enjoying time with their favorite pets—is truly commendable.

The café maintains a strictly smoke-free environment for cleanliness, allows pets so you can spend time with your beloved dog or cat, and permits strollers, making it a worry-free experience for families with young children. It is also barrier-free, designed to be easily accessible for wheelchair users.

This is because, as a venue leading the café culture in the Omotesando and Gaienmae areas, the café prioritizes ensuring that everyone can enjoy a comfortable experience. I believe it is this level of consideration that creates repeat customers who want to come back time and time again.

The menu is also among the best in the industry

A glance at the drink lineup makes their dedication clear.

  • Filter Coffee (hand-drip, with a selection of beans)
  • Espresso menu (espresso, Americano, café latte, etc.)
  • Beer (draft beer, various bottled beers)
  • Wine (select wines arriving regularly)
  • Cocktails and Other Drinks (including Gin Fizz, Moscow Mule, and non-alcoholic options)

The food menu—featuring roast beef, pasta, and desserts —goes beyond what you’d typically expect from a café. In addition to cheesecake, the menu features seasonal items such as chocolate cake and ice cream.

With a commitment to high-quality coffee and a well-rounded selection of alcoholic beverages and food, the café strikes an excellent balance— functioning as a kind of urban family restaurant while never compromising on quality.

Future Potential as a “Fandom Activity” Spot

The Omotesando and Gaienmae areas are among the hubs of “oshi-katsu” culture, and they offer excellent access to the Harajuku and Shibuya areas. Esquisse Coffee is sure to be loved by even more fans as a spot to take a relaxing breather between “oshi-katsu” activities.

With its proposal of a new café culture through DJ events, an expanded nighttime menu, and—above all— a one-of-a-kind space where art and nature fuse, I am convinced that Esquisse Coffee, with all these elements combined, is not just a “café,” but a valuable destination where people can truly spend quality time.
